Prospect Lake Park - Ballina
- Shady lake front park – lovely picnic spot
- Playground suitable for older children
- Colourful, climbable dog statues nearby
- Shared walkway/cyclepath around the lake
Located on the banks of Prospect Lake in East Ballina, this park can be most easily accessed from John Sharpe Street, just off Eyles Drive. There is plenty of free street parking adjacent to the park and lake and a couple of benches and picnic tables can be found within 100m of the playground.
The playground itself is partially surrounded by a shady copse of trees that line the river bank in front of it. I would suggest this is an older children’s playground as access to the inviting yellow slide is via a climbing wall and high rope bridge where (unless you are very tall) it is practically impossible for a parent to assist their small child across. Having said that there is a wide low swing underneath and other rope climbing frames to try.
West of the playground at the other side of the copse of trees is a sandy riverbank suitable for little ones to splash around and bigger ones to have a swim. There are three different sized colourfully painted and climbable statues of dogs at the riverbank; erected there with signage to remind dog owners to take their dogs for a poop elsewhere!
As it is located in a residential area; there are no on site toilet facilities and it’s a good idea to bring hats and your own refreshments. However, East Ballina Shopping Centre is just 500 metres up the road on Links Avenue where you can purchase a variety of refreshments from a number of outlets and make use of the amenities.
