General Information

Byron Bay Bluesfest is Australia’s premier contemporary Blues and Roots music festival. It showcases music from around the world annually on the Easter long weekend on 120 hectares at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, just north of Byron Bay. Bluesfest presents over 200 performances with up to 7 stages over 5, 12 hour days, as well as camping for up to 6,000 people, 5 licensed bars, over 100 food and market stalls, undercover food courts, beer gardens, and being a family friendly festival – some great children’s entertainment!

Bluesfest are delighted to include an area for nappy changing and breastfeeding next to the kids tent located in the Mojo field.

Mr Bumsqueak, Shorty Brown and Sparkles Face painting team up once again for 2017 with an exciting program of fun activities for you and your kids during the festival. Session times are between 2 -3pm and 5 – 6pm every day. Please understand that all children must have a parent or guardian with them at all times.

Mr Bumsqueak the Clown and Miraculo the Magician (Rohan) has been entertaining kids and adults in the Northern Rivers for the last 10 years.  You may have seen him rolling his big Earth Ball over one of your kids squashing them at the many festivals, events and parties he attends or casting a spell that will miraculously cause children to clean up their rooms, wash the dog and refrain from strangling their younger brother…….

It’s going to be circus fun with Big Bubble epicness…, Magic in the airwaves.. Gallons of silliness.. and heaps of balloon action…. Plus more treasures in the mix…..

Susi Sparkles Makeup
The fabulous Susi from Sparkles Makeup is returning to Bluesfest with her amazing face painting for all ages. She will also be doing, Loomband bracelets, glitter tattoos and Hair wraps.

Blues Fest 2017 Kids Festival Program

The dynamic duo of Shorty the Clown and Mr Bumsqueak are at it again bringing magic, mirth, merriment and mayhem to this year’s Blues Festival. C’mon down to the kids tent and join us for a festival load of fun, games and awesome activities. Check out our fantastic program below.

Thursday 13th  April

Get Your Happy on!

Let’s get the party started and kick off the Blues! Bring out the ginormous earthball, tug on the tug-o-war rope, pull the parachute, while doing cart wheels, hand stands and twisting balloons in between.

Circus Comes to Town

Shorty has brought the hoops, the plates, the poi, the juggling balls and mats and we are going to raise a ruckus as we brush up on our circus skills.


Friday 14th  April

Water Wars!

World Water War three is about to break out. Bring your swimmers and prepare for a drenching! Bring on the Waterzookas and the water bombs, and you have a recipe for the Biggest Battle of Bluesfest.

    Get High at the Blues

Have you got your pilot’s licence yet? Exclusive to Byron Blues Fest we will give you tuition on not only how to build your own plane but fly it as well!! All done in an hour- how’s that!!*

*Licence valid for 2 hrs only and CAA regulations restrict licence holders to flying paper aeroplanes.

Saturday 15th April

Awesome Obstacle Course!

Get a work out between sets! Test out your skills of balance climbing  and tumbling as we set up the festivals most challenging and fun obstacle course.

Lighten  Up!

Make your own paper lantern then join us to lighten up the Festival with a kids only lantern parade.

Sunday 16th April

  Make a Fire Breathing Dragon!

Head over to the kids tent where we will be making a marionette fire breathing dragon! Awesome activity, don’t miss out!

         Easter Bunny

It wouldn’t be Easter without a visit from the Easter bunny. We are celebrating with a special Easter craft activity followed by an egg hunt.

Monday 17th April

It’s not Rocket Science!

Rock the blues with our home made air powered Rockets. It is rocket science and we will teach you all about it. Come dressed in your favourite space suit……

The Masked Ball

Come celebrate the last night of the festival with us as we make our very own masked creations and then show them off on a victory lap of the festival.
